Mormon’s are the most liberal in their understanding of heaven and who will be where. We are strict that “no unclean thing can dwell with God”, (1 Nephi 10:21) as that would make His kingdom dirty, but ours is a plan of Salvation, not damnation! There is no line drawn between heaven and hell, as that would be so confusing. Can you imagine? If only I had not done this one thing, then I could get into heaven. Oh- you were so close the Savior says. Sorry! Or perhaps we will say the opposite to others- YOU? YOU got into heaven- with ALL the sins you committed???? Latter-day Saints understand that Christ will save us FROM our sins, not IN our sins, so we all will have had to repent and used the atonement of Christ. We know from the Bible;
1 Corinthians 15: 39-42 :
39 All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.
42 So also is the resurrection of the dead…..
and most importantly Revelation through a prophet that there are three degrees of glory. This is the longest revelation in the Doctrine and Covenants. Section 76. Joseph even says this in the preface:
From sundry revelations which had been received, it was apparent that many important points touching the salvation of man had been taken from the Bible, or lost before it was compiled. It appeared self-evident from what truths were left, that if God rewarded every one according to the deeds done in the body the term ‘Heaven,’ as intended for the Saints’ eternal home, must include more kingdoms than one. Accordingly, … while translating St. John’s Gospel, myself and Elder Rigdon saw the following vision.” At the time this vision was given, the Prophet was translating John 5:29.
Us Mormons have many graphic’s of this plan. Here are a few.
Graphic 1- Jesus Christ is at the center of all of the Plan of Salvation. His atonement and nothing else provides a way for salvation.
Graphic 2-is an old one, but lays out the war in heaven as found in Revelation 12: 7-13 and touches on our first estate (pre-earth life) and second estates (earth), discusses the 2 resurrections as mentioned in John 5: 29. It also tells us that Hell, or Perdition is the 2nd death.
Graphic 3- Focuses on the 3 parts of a play. Life is so confusing unless we know about the first act of the play. The Bible starts with a family and so does The Book of Mormon. Ours should as well.
Any questions about any of these, please ask. Really the questions should be about where you seek to be.
You can do more research. I will lay out the 3 degrees and even Outer Darkness or Hell as described in Section 76.
Celestial V. 50-70 We know the complete Godhead will be in the glory of the sun.
Terrestrial v. 71-80 Jesus Christ will preside over the glory of the moon, and the Holy Ghost will preside and will be felt in the glory of the stars.
Telestial v. 81-91 The Holy Ghost will preside and will be felt in the glory of the stars. However, to know where you are going, you need to know Christ’s commandments.
My goal is to reach the highest degree of Glory. I hope to see you there! But the bottom line is there is a glory prepared for almost all people on the earth. Very, very few will go to Hell. Christ loves all his Children. His is a plan of Salvation, not damnation.
